Be, Awake, Create First Looks

My book, now titled, Be, Awake, Create: Mindful Practices to Spark Creativity has been a labor of love for the past two and a half years.  The writing and illustrations are complete.  I have reviewed the proofs and signed off on the layout.  I am now at the exciting stage of the book publishing process where my colleagues are reading and writing their first endorsements.  Up to now, I was largely working with editors and a couple patient folks, like my ex-husband to listen or read snippets of the book as I composed it.  Now, though, I am starting to get feedback from fellow dharma art teachers, artists and coaches.  And the response so far is quite positive.

Here are just a few that bring a smile to my face.

Be, Awake, Create is full of inspiring exercises and motivating quotations. Once you pick it up, you can’t put it down, and when you do put it down, you just want to rush off and do something creative!

This is a unique book, which expands the boundaries of art and reveals the vital importance of being creative. It will be an indispensable resource of ideas and exercises for anyone interested in exploring the vast potential hidden within their being.”  Seyed Alavi, Artist (a wonderful public artist whose utility boxes are all over the town of Emeryville, CA)

“Be, Awake, Create is sure to become a classic, for no other book presents meditation/mindfulness as the complete ground from which to access our creativity, while leading us through the whole experiential path. Whether a seasoned or new artist/meditator, this interactive practice journal will bring out the magic of creating out of everyday life. With simplicity, lucidity and wisdom, Younger reveals how being present naturally leads to the re-awakening of not only our awareness & creativity, but our true humanity— a view so needed in our world today; she is to be thanked for heralding the way!”

Patricia Donegan poet, translator, meditation teacher and author of Haiku Mind: 108 Poems to Cultivate Awareness & Open Your Heart

“Based on the popular meditation practice of mindfulness, Be, Awake, Create offers exercises and advice that introduce us to the wider view of “wakefulness”…  Rebekah’s voice is wise; her advice, practical; her insights, profound.”
Michael Carroll – Buddhist teacher/business coach/author, Awake at Work

This week I also started an Instagram hashtag #beawakecreate for readers to share the creations they make based on the activities offered in the book.  Fiber Artist, Linda Miller, sent me two examples of Destruction Constructions of her quilts, after I shared a reading from the book and this exercise for using destroying energy in the creative process.

There are still a few more tasks to do before the book is released in June of this year.  Revamping the website and recording the audio instructions that will be downloadable for some of the activities on the New Harbinger website.

You can now pre-order the book at a discount through Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
